Implementation CO₂ Performance Ladder in Portugal

Implementation in Portugal

The CO2 Performance Ladder is now being piloted in Portugal, with Aliados Consulting leading the initiative. The Ladder provides a clear framework for public authorities to encourage suppliers to reduce their carbon emissions, helping to accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices across various sectors. This approach supports Portugal’s national strategy, ECO360, which aims for all public organisations to have a sustainable procurement strategy in place by 2030.

Aliados Consulting, under the leadership of Tiago Ferreira, will coordinate the CO2 Performance Ladder’s rollout, working closely with both public authorities and businesses. The Ladder empowers organisations by offering competitive advantages in public tenders, fostering innovation, and aligning with national and European climate goals, such as the European Green Deal and Fit for 55. By adopting this proven tool, Portugal can fast-track its sustainability objectives and move towards a more low-carbon economy.

The CO2  Performance Ladder is an internationally validated system that provides Portugal with a structured pathway to meeting its decarbonisation goals. This pilot is a critical step in ensuring that all public organisations have sustainable procurement strategies in place by 2030.
